Progress Hub: Sumdog's new learning engine

Progress Hub™ is the new learning engine at the heart of everything Sumdog does.

It leads students automatically through the Common Core and key state standards Ontario Curriculum and WNCP Standards National Curriculum, CfE, Welsh LNF and Northern Irish curriculum Australian National Curriculum New Zealand Curriculum, moving you forward when you're ready.

Progress Hub™ gets to know you personally as you play, leading you through the skills, and letting your teachers and parents know about your progress.

Here's how it works.

1Diagnostic testing... while students play

First, we assess the standards on whichthe curriculum level at which each child should be working, so we can personalize our questions.

Progress Hub's diagnostic testing takes place while students play Sumdog's games. As they play, we ask a mixture of questions. Some will be easy, but some will cover skills they don't know.

Teachers can help our learning engine's accuracy by giving us the typical starting age for the class, and parents by giving us the child's date of birth.

2Pets reward progress

It'll only take an hour or two playing Sumdog's games to completing the diagnostic test phase.

Once it's done, you get your first pet. You can choose which pet, and what you call it.

Your pet will be with you on your homepage, and also in the House.

3StandardsCurriculum-aligned skills and steps

With the help of around 100 teachers, we've completely revised Sumdog's skill plans. They're correlated with the Common Core and key state standards Ontario Curriculum and WNCP Standards National Curriculum, Scottish CfE, Welsh LNF and Northern Irish curriculum Australian National Curriculum New Zealand Curriculum.

Each year's learning is divided into a set of skills. Each skill, meanwhile, is split into steps, building the learning in just the right way.

We lead students through each skill, step by step, until Progress Hub can tell that the whole skill is mastered.

4Learn a skill - and your pet learns a trick

Each time you master a skill on Sumdog, your pet learns a new trick. And every 10 skills, you'll be able to choose a new pet!

Sumdog's Progress Hub™ learning engine is wrapped in a state-of-the-art game environment, motivating students to keep learning.

For the first time, we're rewarding progress as well as effort. Click your pet to see the tricks it has learned, and then choose one to play it.

5Focusing and revising

As you play, at the top of the City page, you'll see the skill you're focusing on.

Green bars show how many steps you've mastered, and how many steps you have to go until you earn your pet's next trick.

Every few games, to keep things fun, you'll take a break, and revise skills you've already mastered.

6Improvement chart

Click the skill name on your homepage to see your improvement chart.

This shows each student how they're doing, compared to the expected progress for that school year.

Each point on the graph gives more information, showing the steps for that skill, when it was completed, and the standardscurriculum it's correlated with.

7Proficiency chart

Teachers and parents of subscribed children will also see progress reported in our new proficiency chart.

This gives a more in-depth view, showing exactly where each child is with respect to the standardscurriculum.

You'll see when the student mastered each skill and the steps involved, correlated with your chosen standardscurriculum.

8Edit your school's Skill Plan

Progress Hub™ leads students automatically through the Common Core and key state standards Ontario Curriculum and WNCP Standards National Curriculum, CfE, Welsh LNF and Northern Irish curriculum Australian National Curriculum New Zealand Curriculum, moving them on automatically when they're ready.

On Sumdog, students have a great time - but their teachers retain control over their work.

Teachers can edit Sumdog's skill plan to make it match the order of their school's teaching. Sumdog will then lead students through the skills in this order.
